SPIDER VEIN TREATMENT

During laser treatment, intense laser light is directed to the veins which eliminate them permanently in one to three treatments. The procedure can take anywhere from 5 minutes to 30 minutes depending on how many spider veins are being treated.

Telangiectasia or Venulectasias, are commonly known as spider veins and typically appear on calves, thighs and occasionally the face. In some people, spider veins only happen in a small, concentrated area; in others, they spread all over the legs.

Spider veins happen when circulation becomes inefficient. The valves and walls of the veins become weakened due to this inefficient circulation; in response, blood pools up and creates spider veins.

These veins are easily sighted because they appear close to the surface of the skin and are highly visible.

There are several conditions that are directly correlated with the development of spider veins. First, adults and older individuals are far more vulnerable to developing spider veins than younger people. Family history or heredity plays a role in one’s vulnerability to spider veins, if a parent or grandparent has spider veins; one is more likely to develop them. Shifts in hormonal levels, particularly in the level of estrogen, may also cause an appearance of spider veins. Elongated periods of idle standing have also been associated with spider veins.

Improvement may be seen after a single treatment. The total number of required treatment sessions depends on the extent and depth of the vascular lesions. Maximum clearance is typically achieved within 1-3 treatment sessions.
